Things have been very quite with fanzig for months and months, allot has happened in my life and i feel i couldn't contribute to this site as much as i wanted, say it was a lack in faith, but people have reassured me this is a great thing to do, i was scared we would get lost in the shuffle, but we are going to try and make this a great fanzine.

HLA are some pretty heavy guys from the London area. they play sick hardcore influenced metal.

this is a little break down of there new e.p

Intro

As soon as the feed back kicks in your gripped, waiting for what is about to kick you in the teeth.
the opening riff draws you in more and more until the break comes. and it comes as a neck snapping break down that smashes everything.

Figure Of Discontent

Kicks in and you already want to loose your mind. with crazy riffs slamming into a great double kit beat which blends into an great riff you cant but help but nod your head too, this song goes through many changes of style, it doesn't stick to one which is great, hardcore beat to chucking riffs, grind parts. it keeps you on your toes.

Our Honour Their Hate

This track goes straight into a blistering death metal riff which seems to get faster and faster (i don't know how there drummers arms hasn't fallen off already).
Mixing a sweet hardcore beat with chugging mix ups is really infectious.
every line kyle sings could pretty much be a hardcore gang chant, which is fucking great.
this song makes me want to get of my chair, throw it against the wall and most with my dog.

No Balls (Man Up!)

Its only 10 seconds in and my head is already melting from the heaviness. busting into a straight up hardcore 2step which is refreshing to hear. next comes a great hatebreed style build up into a beat down, heavy as fuck.

which doesn't prepare you for the last part of the track and once it comes in its like an assault on your senses. nothing is left. total destruction.

This is a must buy for anyone who loves metal / hardcore / death metal. its spreads over loads of genres.

GO BUY IT!!! what else are you going to buy with your money??? nothing as good as this.

We have had this in the pipeline for a few months now, and finally weve got our act together to post this up.

this is something i have been waiting a few years to do, and im really happy that simon took the time out to help us out and give us a great interview,

Many people know who you are, but for the people who don't could you please introduce yourself?

My name is Simon Erl, I do tattoos, eat vegan food and worship Satan.

Can we get the boring questions out of the way first? What first attracted you to tattooing?

I've always loved tattoos as a child. I was intrigued and attracted to them. Later I got into punk and hardcore in the mid '90s so that's when I specifically encountered good traditional tattoos. From doing artwork for bands and finally being old enough to get tattooed myself I knew it was something I wanted to get into.

Since you started tattooing you must of seen allot of trends come and go?
What have been some of the worst and best?
With anything if you follow it long enough you will see all sorts of trends and cycles come and go. I think my least favourite was when kids were getting really negative stuff tattooed. Severed girls heads or girls crying blood and whatever. I'm guilty of drawing things like that in the past too but now I hate that stuff it's too negative and almost massoganistic. I like nice things these days, a tattoo should be an adornment on the body. Also the blind use of satanic and black magic symbols is out of control at the moment.
As for good trends I'm very much liking the influx of old timey looking stuff recently, the 1920's potato famine sign board looking stuff, it looks classic and isn't too polished, I think it's classy.

Anyone who has seen your work knows your influenced by dark subjects like the occult, satanism and Nazism, what got you into this subject and whats your fascination with it?
What I'm into in my personal life very much shines through in what I draw. I like cults, covens, guilds, gangs, etc because I appreciate any social structure in which a group of people live by their own set of rules and laws outside and above of the ones enforced on us by the government.
I like satanism not only on a spiritual level but aesthetically too, I guess that's pretty plain to see.
As for Nazis and fascism I have no time or interest in it any further than the haircuts. I'll draw a swastika with a much thought and meaning as a school boy draws a cock and balls on the toilet wall. It's a common, and I guess partly self inflicted, misconception that I'm into Nazism. I abhor racism and right wing politics whole heatedly. The late trend of getting SS girls or Nazi insignias tattooed was a huge mistake.

I heard your really into your music as well, what kind of stuff are you into?

I love what I like and I hate what I don't like.

Your a collector of vinyl and memorabilia aren't you? Tell us some of your precised pieces.?

This is a mean question. It's like asking a mother which of her children are her favourite.

Apart from tattooing, the film and music you like does it influence your day to day life and art or is it more of an escape?

I try to live my life so I don't need an escape from it. I'd hate to be stuck in a life I don't like and constantly be in need of escaping it. My influences are my interests and the way I live.

You've travelled allot through tattooing, doing guest spots and conventions. Why did you choose London and the UK as your home?

It was a reaction to having grown up on a small island on the bottom of the world I guess. I wanted to travel Europe but the New Zealand dollar wasn't worth much anywhere else in the world so I thought I'd come to London to attain a few of the queens pounds to take me further. I just always ended up coming back here. I had a love/hate relationship with this city for the first few years but I've learnt to appreciate it's beauty and it's opportunities.

When travailing have you found it hard being away from family, friends and creature comforts?
Strangely enough I never found it hard. I have something strange and horrible in me that let's me pack my bags and leave all my friends and family and venture off alone with no remorse. It doesn't mean I don't care or love them, although it's difficult for me to convince them of this, it's just something I can do a little too easily. Perhaps it's my mothers fault from when she decided to pack a one year is chubby simon into a pappoose and travel the world alone. As for comforts, I've been on the road in the worst conditions, slept under bridges, in cardboard boxes in the rain, no money or food and then the next day been hanging out in a mansion with a pool and tennis court and eating a variety of vegan caviar. Being on the road is a strange thing.

Holy Terror and the process church is something i know your really to. Is religion a big thing in your life?

The process church fascinates me. My beliefs don't coincide with what they preach but I'm intrigued by their views on good and evil and even more so by their aesthetics.
Another common misconception about me is that I'm anti Christian or anti religious. I see religion in is powered sense as a positive thing. It's only when the government or state become involved in it that it turns into an ugly beast.

What could we find you doing when your not tattooing?

Sleeping, eating, painting and dreaming about riding my motorcycle.

Is there any other art forms you like to practice in?

I've been meaning to start oil painting but I just don't seem to find the time. I also plan on going to film school in a few years to release two films before I die.
Fanzig are fans of the cinema. what films when you were younger got you into the morbid side of life?
Well to be honest I was never raised on television or films. My mother always encouraged me to play outside or read books. We never had a TV in the house. So I can't blame what you call my interest on the morbidity of life on television. Let's blame Lord Henry Wotton.

Has there been any artists, films, records, books or anything else you've came across recently that you have fallen in love with?

I stumbled across a kid from up north called Liam Barrett. He does some great stuff, not what I'm usually into but defiantly worth checking out. I haven't seen a good new film in a while, Valhalla rising took me by surprise. La bas by Huysmans is a great novel and the best new record I got recently was the King Dude 7" black triangle.

I know your into some low key stuff, like films like Simon King Of The Withes and bands like Electric Wizard, how do you find out about these great things?

Ha ha both these things aren't that hard to come across. Electric wizard is one of the heaviest bands on earth and Simon King of Witches is a classic.

Where do you think tattooing is at the moment? do you feel its a relaxed thing or still a taboo?

I think it's dangerously close to being extremely mainstream and watered down.
Is there something you have been tattooing allot recently that you've loved doing?

Due to having been on the road for such along time I've only been doing one hit tattoos but being at Jayne Doe permanently has given me the opportunity to do bigger projects which I'm enjoying greatly.
Do you feel your constantly processing with your work?

Unfortunately not, sometimes I see a clear progression and other times I feel like I'm stuck doing the same bullshit mistakes over and over and it makes me want to pack up and disappear into the desert on my motorcycle. But I guess its important in tattooing to be very self critical.

What would be your "perfect" tattoo?

One that makes my customer happy.

ive know chris for a while now, hes one of the nicest guys and in one of tbe best hardcore / metal bands in the scene, ive wanted to interview him for a while,. i hassled him but he got round to it haha..

Afternoon Chris. for anyone who doesn't know you can you please introduce yourself?
Yo! I'm Chris and i sing in a band called Hang The Bastard

Can you tell us the story how HTB got started and how you got involved?
It was pretty much me and Sam being sick of not doing anything musically that we enjoyed. We both love stuff like Black Sabbath and older rock and we both dig hardcore bands like Integrity so we just decided to get something going. Sam's cousin Lloyd played guitar as well at the time, then Simon joined by me sending a bulletin out on my space looking for someone. He also had no idea who Integrity or hardcore was but he like heavy music and was really up for doing something. So we just started off by covering Integrity, I think we did a Minor Threat cover at one point and just jammed out riffs. The first song we wrote was pillage your village which is on Raw Sorcery.

You play allot of hardcore shows and seem to be influenced hardcore bands, would you call yourself a hardcore band?
I would probably call us a hardcore band over anything else, I suppose we're just allot more metallic than other hardcore bands and with doomy/southern influences. Other members of the band would probably argue against that and say we're this genre or another but it doesn't really matter what you label us.

Just by listing to your Cd's, and splits you can tell you love heavy riffs, when writing a HTB song do you have any rules?
No we just jam out and see what happens, I think the new record will show that we're down for trying new things and experimenting a bit.

The band seems to have dark and heavy tones and ideas in lyric writing and artwork etc...
is this something the band has been into for a long time?
I think its just something that happened naturally just by gaining influences from the other bands we listen to or certain films and books. You wont find me singing about unity and sticking by your friends, I actually live in the real world.

Is there other things apart from music that motivates the band, .i.e film, art?
Yeah of course, mainly movies I suppose, horror movies played a big part of the bands growth I think. Last House on the Left was a favourite to have on in the background when songwriting. The Wicker Man of course! I'm not sure if these films are direct influences to us but I would recommend Rosemary's Baby, Witch finder General, Antichrist, any John Carpenter movie.

You've had a few member changes since the start of the band, do you feel knocked back when you need to change a member or is it a positive covered in a negative for you?
Well the last two bassists that we're removed from the band for various and yet some what similar reasons was definitely a positive thing and we've gone from strength to strength without them. We pretty much just have problems with bassists and I think we've come to terms with the fact that we are a four piece with hired hands to play bass.

What have some of highs and lows been of HTB run so far?
Well having Raw Sorcery come out and generally be liked by allot of people was pretty cool! We've been over to the mainland on 2 tours now. We've played in countries as far away as Romania. Being taken on by Holy Roar. Playing some crazy shows that we would never have thought we could when we started the band.

Haven't really been many low points to be honest, we've kicked a couple people out but I personally don't consider them to be low points. No its been pretty good so far.

Has the been a show you've been stoked to play yet?
Yeah loads! We played Pressure Fest last year, we've got Ieper Fest coming up in a couple weeks. Played with some of mine/our favourite bands, like Ringworm, Trash Talk, Madball, Pulling Teeth, the list goes on, we've been really lucky with some of the shows we've landed on.

On your spilt with brutality will prevail you have some great samples inc a Rosemary's baby clip.
are you a big film fan, and does this translate into your lyrics?
Yeah we all are, love Rosemary's Baby and loads of other horrors like I mentioned earlier. Sometimes my lyrics can be influenced by films but not directly. If anything I'll watch a film, then take the theme of it and translate it to something that affects me in the real world.

What would you like to do with HTB in the future?
Just write more songs and go on tour. Just play new places all the time really. Nothing that grand but it would make us all happy!

What in in the works for HTB over the next few months?

We have an album coming out on Holy Roar in the next few months and we're talking about what to do next.

And what do you hope people will take away from HTB?

I haven't always been a massive fan of deathcore bands, i like what i like and don't branch out allot, which is strange for me as I'm always so open with music, but i find that some times that deathcore / metal bands sound the same, so when i heard P.O.A i was really surprised and wasn't bored at all. this band throw to much in to the mix, two step parts, melody, something every one wants to heard when your a massive fan of a genre.,

Right from the start "Taking Lives On Ancient Tides" smacks you in the face, i don't know if its cool sample from Saw or the blistering attack straight away. but as soon as the first break down hits you really get into the groove, and feel there is a good song structure and not just a whole lot of chugging and Bree's.

Slipping into the next song comes a riff At The Gates would be jealous of, a very straight up more death metal style song it feels really nice to have a chance of pace, with many didn't riff changes you do get more pumped. then one of the sickest samples Ive heard of a long time kick in. followed by a fast paced break down and death metal take on two step best. forever changing but giving you something different every time.

Alyssa is a brutal assault to finish the e.p, the vocalist brutally rapes you with his harsh as fuck vocals but you some how want him to do it more. ha! with every riff this get song gets more intense, slowly building up to this soothing straight up melodic riff that's fills your arms with goose bumps as the song fades out. No massive brutal breakdown trying to prove there a hard band, they end on something nice,. which is hard to find,

If your a fan of deathcore / metal i think you will be really surprises by this band, their not the same shit that gets churned out every month, there not favour of the month, there strong and are only going to get better.

There currently working on there next CD, which i can wait for, hoping they would of gone on a new journey but sticking to there guns.

I'm going on holiday for 2 weeks within the next few days, and thought i would share some sweet albums i will be listing to over my holiday.

I'm not a massive on pop punk which i know allot of people listen to in summer.

so this is my alternative ..........

BLACK FLAG - DISCOGRAPHY

I think that BF are pretty much the best "old school" hardcore band, or maybe that's just my view.

their a class act band either way if you like Keith Morris or Henry Rollins, every album is hand down some of the best records to come out of the early hardcore scene.

CRO MAGS - BEST WISHES

When i first heard this album i had only heard the hardcore bands everyone really knows about when first getting into the originals, bad brains, black flag, minor threat,. it wasn't until i found cro mags something switched with me, i felt a home and love for cro mags i haven't every felt for allot of bands after the feeling i had with them. but as soon as "We Gotta Know" kicked in i made me want to jump around my room and break everything and fuck up everything i hated, pure energy and knowledge this record.

BIOHAZARD - URBAN DISCIPLINE

i had heard of the hazard many years ago but never checked them out, i had fears that they were shit or nu metal, i really dont know why, but it sucks that i didnt have a clue about this band sooner but im so glad i know about them now, i personaly think this is ther best album, great singles and great lyrics. if your into stuff like., madball, bitter end, straight up NY hardcore, there your band. sweet rap style singing and fucking sweet heavy riffs.

ALPHA & OMEGA - LIFE SWALLOWER / DEVILS BED.

i first heard A&O when watching this is hardcore fest DVD., and i was really surprised. i had to listen to them a few times to really get what they was about but i knew they would go on to make some fucking sweet stuff, and that have, life swallower there new album is dropping next month, Ive only heard two songs of the album so far, but they are on constant replay all the time, i believe they are my favourite an best hardcore band in the USA scene at the moment.

BAD BRAINS - SELF TITELD

i do believe this record will stand the test of time, this album spawned many bands for the likes of black flag, minor threat, cro mags. so if it wasn't for BB i think hardcore would of been dead allot quicker then when it did in the 80s.

some heavy as hell tunes, fast. smart and cut throat songs, a true classic.

THE CULT - PURE CULT

Wither you like the cult or not, this album is huge, for sound and just infectious grooves.

the 80's gave us allot of great bands but the cult i do believe were one of the best keep secrets, yeah they were big, but i think only now people can see how they have influenced so much in the music scene, there is allot of songs you will of heard before but never knew who there were. if i was you i would have this on soil repeat.

DANZIG - DISCOGRAPHY

What can i say, this man is a legend. and my favourite song writer all the time, the first few albums allot of people believe them to be his best work, i could agree and disagree, but i love hes stuff so much i cant really decide. i first got into danzig through misfits, and heard mother, and from them i was hooked. I - III are great albums, for solid songs, blow you away solos and beat that will blow your bass off! (R.I.P Chuck).

COME AND GET EVIL WITH ME!

WHITE LIES - TO LOSE MY LIFE.

Every few months this band gets bigger and bigger, which i think they deserve it, but part of me wants me to keep them as my little band, i have felt so strong about a album for a long time, i listen to a whole array of music, but dark soulful music goes straight to my heart. the first time i heard WL i knew they were a band i would get obsessed with, and think its the way to be with this band, track after track you start to build a strong love for this band, there are not filler songs on this album, every song delivers what you need, and keeps you wanting more.

PRINCE - PURPLE RAIN

Now come on,,,, everyone loves prince, this album and film turned my love into a strange obsession to prince, i listen to some of the heaviest stuff, and people might think its weird but i would trade hardcore / metal / punk in for prince any day. every prince track makes you want to sing along, even if you don't know the word's.

NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS - TENDER PREY

I always had the impression Nick Cave was going to be something i couldn't really get into, but my god i was wrong, he along side, Johnny Cash, Glenn Danzig to me he is one of the most soulful and haunting song witters ever.

I first came across HLA when derv (ALTD) and chris (HTB) told me to check them out.

And they were right, their one of the best metal hardcore crossover bands Ive heard in a long time.

We've made a deal and I'm going to promote their arse off.

So Firstly.......

Over the weekend of Download Festival HLA were the first band to play the fest, but they weren't on the bill!

"How did they play then?..." i hear you ask?

Well they played the first Download Fest guerrilla gig, they played the car park!

They loaded all the gear in a van, got a power generator and was able to play to a crowd of fans / people going to download for a short time before the security came and shut it down,

It sucked that it had to be shut down but at least HLA can say they were the first band to open up Download Fest 2010, and i couldn't think of a better band to do it i say.

CB6 are a sweet little outfit local to me from Essex.

When I was around the age of 20 I went to a lots of local gigs with friends, one night a band played that i thought would grow into great things.

A few years later here they are, still trying to climb the ladder but standing strong.

Formed in 2001, at ages 10-11 they set out to play music which they had a huge passion for, inspired at the time by the likes of Pantera, Metallica, Mudvayne, Slipknot etc spent four years rehearsing learning to play instruments as a band.

Recorded first demo at 8ball studios with Producer Steve Weston.

It consisted of 5 songs and in early 05 began gigging and played regularly at local youth centre.

The demo was well received by audience local to area then developed a stronger sound for second record which was recorded at escape route productions in Greys with producer Dan Abela.

After doing a mini tour With fellow band The Failing travelling all over UK before the age of 18. Recorded a single track "Below you" with producer Scott Atkins (Sylosis, Cinders fall, Cradle of filth).

They have been currently been recording at Morgan Sound House with producer Jim Morgan for a new album/demo which has the working title of T.A.C (Times are Changing) due for release in 2010.

They have great things in the pipe line,

For people who haven't heard them i think you will be surprised.

Afternoon Dervla, for people who don't know you and your band could you introduce yourself?

Hello, I'm Dervla and i sing for A Long Time Dead, I'm 23 and I live in north west London. I've been singing for ALTD for a year and a half.

Can you tell us how A Long Time Dead came about?

The guys had been working together over many years. They had been jamming what is now ALTD for about six months at the time that i tried out for them. They have been very close friends of mine for many years so i was honored to join the group. After a few try outs, we decided to form under the name of A Long Time Dead and have been playing shows for a year and a half now.

Can you describe your sound?

yes, angry!

Whats going on in the ALTD camp currently?

We've just finished recording our first 4 track release, which hopefully should be out late August. We're very excited about this recording and how its come together. The record includes 3 songs we play live often and a brand new song which we're very proud of, i cant wait to get it out there and get going with playing more shows.

Now.. being a female vocalist do you find there is stereotypes that come with being one?
there are three possible answers to this question, yes, no, and what stereotype are you talking about...? i think I'm going with the latter, we are all individuals, regardless of gender, you're either good at what you do or you're not, i hope that me being a woman isn't a problem for people when they listen to our band and take it for what it is.

Have you found anyone hasn't taken you so seriously because you are female?
yep! i remember one of the first shows we played, the guy on the door was doing the rounds making sure everyone inside had paid, ALTD were still to sound check and this guy asks me to pay, so i tell him I'm 'in the band', he looks at me for 5 seconds and says 'are you sure...?' pure ignorance, i just allow it and aim to play even harder to make people like that feel like knobs :)

What first made you so obsessed with metal and music in general?

Ahh, the first metal band i ever listened to was papa roach! I was obsessed with nu metal when i was 15 years old. My tastes did change over the years. When someone gave me records by Metallica, Fear Factory, Tool, and Pantera I really fell in love with metal and the alternative way of life. As for music in general, I remember waiting months, when I was younger, for Xmas as my parents were getting me Michael Jackson's dangerous album on tape, I always loved music. I had always been into singing and performing from an early age and had vocal training when I was 13 and again at the age of 17. I've always taken my singing very seriously and still do.

Do you find it hard being a "metal" band coming from a hardcore scene?

I don't think we've come from a hardcore scene, I feel we've been embraced by it, which still amazes me, there's such a strong sense of community within hardcore music. As for being a metal band, I know we sound slightly heavier than some bands that we play with, but I feel the outcome is still the same, we're an angry band before we are any genre which has made it easy to play many different types of shows.

What are some of the highlights you guys have had so far., and some of the lows?

I know for me, my highlights have been playing carry on moshing at the start of the year, that show really opened my eyes to hardcore music. Then again playing anchorfest a few months back, we had a good reception from the crowd, and I feel that really helped getting our name out there. Also having just finished our EP, its sound so good! I cant wait to show it to people and to see what they make of it. I cant think of any lows, life is what you make it, I do my best to forget the bad and focus on the good :)

Do you find it hard to be noticed while being in a metal scene where allot of bands sound the same?

I feel we've never really sunk into the background at any metal shows, mainly because the hardcore element shines through at metal shows just as the metal shines through at hardcore shows. We tend to stick out no matter where we play, just like your strange cousin at those family weddings!

Are there any bands or records at the moment your really into?
YES! check out Here Lies Afflictions new EP Catharsis, amazing stuff, more metal, but they are still rockin' the hardcore elements. Also Beater, keep an eye on them, our bassist Moppy plays guitar for them, he's a Hench bastard so you can imagine how heavy they are!

Hello Ricky, can you introduce yourself to the readers please?

S'appening?! I'm from South London, now working from True Tattoo, but, originally apprenticed in Forevermore London, tattooing most of what was a year now? Maybe less. I write graffiti and love to watercolour paint, ohh and own a giant rabbit called Roger!

Can you tell us how you first got into tattooing and want made you want to tattoo?

I was always into doing and drawing graffiti growing up as a kid, teaching friends , doodling sketches for them, painting names in peoples bed rooms, learning most from my cousin, but found my way into tattooing because of my girlfriend. She always had tattoos but one day came home with a huge diamond/heart/wings chest piece done from "irish-danny-boi" after getting some work done, I then realised what tattooing was all about then it came to me, this was what i wanted to do! Tattoo. So talked about putting my art onto skin instead of throwing it up on walls only to get cleaned off, then asked in a studio how I would go about getting an apprenticeship, luckily I got taken on there and then and now here I am with allot of thanks to Jonatah Andreozzi. Love you dude!

Can you describe your style to us?

Umm.. easily - Old school, thick black lines, not perfect but there to stay, same with the colour; bold and full with allot of black shading. I was told to stick with an artist i liked and progress in redrawing classics rather then trying to create this crazy style of my own that every one is trying to do. I then started to work out of books like Doc Kings stencils or Sailor Jerry flash books whilst learning about true electric tattooing from old school masters like Bert Grimm, Herbert Hoffman, Paul Rogers, Bob Shaw, Percy Waters, the list goes on. Old-school is what is in my heart - swallows and daggers, hearts and banners, something your grandad can set his watch to...

You use only a few colours in your work, do you find this effective?

Black, red and yellow (maybe green) all compliment the piece. I find if I add blue I'm not so happy with the final result. Red roses and yellow leaves i love to do. Golden yellow is my favourite colour when tattooing, it stands out from the the rest and always draws my eyes to the tattoo when used right. I'm hoping soon I will tattoo a whole piece coloured only in block yellow! Maybe a golden pin-up or Gypsy's head, that would be cool.

You've really got your own style. when you started did you plan on being so different?

I cant see it much myself, but when I first started I was always trying to be so different, adding extra heads, mixing animals up drawing things that were weird, but so weird no-one would get them tattooed! Apart from the ice lolly with tits and a cock for a nose. I love ugly old-school and sort of think in a strange way my work is ugly but in an appealing way...

You like other art forms like graffiti, do you think this translates into your tattoo designing?

To be honest I don't really add any graffiti elements into my tattooing style. I think it's been done before and can look really natural, for example, Deno from Tattoo Magic who gave me one of my favourite tattoos (gorilla neck piece) and then look really rubbish like ***** (I won't mention who). But no, that's not the style I'm going for at all. although graffiti related tattoos are always fun to do. Saying that, the old school tattoo style and graffiti have allot in common e.g with the simple but strong infill and outline making them both stand out art.

What are some of the other mediums you use when doing a piece of art?

Loads. I tend to use all sorts of things, starting from water colours, spray paint, felt pens all the way down to tipex or even boot polish, depending on wether it's on canvas, watercolour paper, floors, walls even objects like toy cars and kidrobot mannys, but sadly I don't have much time for things like that down to drawing tattooing designs with just pen and paper or painting flash which I miss doing on a daily basis. My rabbit hasn't been a medium... yet! Although he loves to get involved with everything i do..

Do you feel that tattooing is slowly becoming a more relaxed thing, and not so much a taboo?

I had to google the word 'taboo' haha. I think really a tattoo is apart of you. Obviously, as you're having pigment ink scarred into your skin for eternity, but its your choice and a way of living that you choose. Some people have to respect that, but getting to know the feeling of wearing a tattoo on your neck seems to be a "good idea" nowadays, or maybe getting your girlfriends or boyfriends name tattooed the sides of your hands! There's a fella, Bob Done, who always mad me laugh to talk about, kids with two fully only out lined Japanese sleeves done walking around thinking they know what they're talking about. Or over hearing them discuss a tattoo machine being reffered to as a gun. Asking to see your ink does not make me understand why so many people think its frowned upon when your Mum is paying for your 56 stars on your face...get tattooed if you love and respect the art not because Cheryl Cole has a turdy bit of tribal.

Apart from tattooing what other things would we catch you doing?

You might catch me writing my name on a wall, sitting around a friends purely doing f**k all. Driving in a car to random places to drive all the way back again, in the pub watching Chris play the fruity, random trips to Amsterdam (best place in the world I must chuck in), playing in the garden with my rabbit, spending time with the missus, drum and bass played a big part in my life so going raving every other night, watching my friends stare at the girls but being to shy to talk to them(!) basically anything that a normal 21 year old DOESN'T do at his age.

Has there been any tattoos that you've done that have totally blown you away?

I tattooed two Mexican skulls on a friend, Lotti's feet. That came out really nice, she was such a star to put up with my brutal technique of tattooing, and still gets "wows" from people when she gets them out. What makes me happy is when my customer is blown away with me! And not forgetting the mermaid with 6 tits!

What are you hoping to do with tattooing in the future

Become someone with unique work, being a custom tattooist only; not doing all the s**t - just doing my thing, tattooing cool people. I'm not looking for fame or a name , I just want me and over people to be happy with my work.

Have you got any advice for people wanting to tattoo / looking to get tattooed?

Hoping not to sound too rude, there are enough twits out there wanting to become a tattooist who can't even draw a simple butterfly, or even a straight line. If you don't have anything to bring into the business don't make it harder for us to make a living. Trying not to sound like I think I'm the best, but once you're convinced your better then the rest you know nothing, but if your lucky to have a skill in something use it, don't try and be someone or something because you think your pussy rating will go up. I like to collect tattoos, choose some one you trust and let them do their thing, you will certainly get the best out of them, being fussy with a minor detail ruins the point of getting something from someone who's style you like!

The Devil Rides Out.

This is one of Hammer Horrors best films. from the start till the end its no stop greatness,

Christopher Lee plays a amazing role like always.

The Plot?

Set in 1930's London Duc de Richleau and Rex van Ryn rescue their friend Simon Aron and another
young initiate,Tanith, from a strange devil worshipping cult. During the rescue they disrupt a ceremony on Salisbury Plain in which Satan himself appears. They escape to the home of a friends of Richleau and van Ryn, and are followed by the group's leader, Mocata, who has a psychic connection to the two initiates and will try anything to obtain Simon. After visiting the house to discuss the matter and an unsuccessful attempt to influence the initiates to return, Mocata forces Richleau and the other occupants to defend themselves through a night of black magic. Their successful defence ultimately results in Mocata himself paying the price of loss of life and eternal damnation of his soul for having wrongly summoned the angel of death.

Long Story Short?

This is bar far the best devil worship / cult film you with find, some of the best affects you will find.

Very eerie at times but also very strong, you wont find your self bored or wanting to turn off.

The Omen

I think pretty much anyone who watches films will or have of heard of The Omen.

But a few of you might of not seen it, i know allot of people treat it as a "horror" classic but don't take

away any of the satanic or hellish references.

The Plot?

Robert Thron becomes the ambassador to Great Britain he and his family move from Rome to London, where they set themselves up in a dwelling that's more a palace than a mere mansion, and hes wife Cathy hires a local girl named Holly to serve as a governess to young Damien (their son). Everything seems great in Thornland until the boy's fifth birthday. That afternoon, right in the middle of the birthday party, Holly hangs herself from the roof of the mansion after yelling happily to Damien. Photographer Keith Jennings accounts for only a small part of the paparazzi presence at the event, and the nanny's startlingly public suicide is all over the papers within 24 hours.

Reporters aren't the only ones who start following Thorn around after that, however. A day or two later, a priest from Rome who calls himself Father Brennan comes to see Robert at work with what sounds at first to be blackmail on his mind. Vehemently urging Thorn to accept Christ drink His blood, Brennan goes on to say that he was at that hospital five years before, and that while he was there, he saw the mother of Roberts child. And make no mistake, Brennan knows very well that Cathy Thorn is not Damien's real mother. Thorn has the embassy security guards throw Brennan out before he can finish telling Robert just who the mother was. But regardless, the ambassador goes home that evening a troubled man. Keith Jennings is troubled, too. He happened to snap a few pictures of Brennan on his way out, and upon developing them, he notices a strange dark streak transfixing the priest's body in each one a streak remarkably like the one that seems to encircle Holly's neck in the photo Jennings took shortly before she hung herself.

More and more strange and dark things happen around the Thorn family. And a series of circumstance bring everything together at the end of the film.

Long Story Short?

This film is chilling and stunning, it has one of the best film scores in years, a true classic for horror fans and
and fans of films involving the occult.

The Exorcist

I think everyone knows this film for how manys times its been used as reference in other films or in comdey skecths, even so you can still wacth this film and over the years it will never stop being one of the strongest films in cinema history.

The Plot?

In the central storyline, Chris MacNeil, an actress filming in Georgetown, notices dramatic and dangerous changes in the behavior of her 12-year-old daughter Regan MacNeil. Regan first has a seizure, then exhibits strange, unnatural powers, including levitation and great strength. She often curses and blasphemes in a demonic male voice. At first, Chris believes that Regan's changes are related to the trauma of Chris's recent divorce, but doctors suspect a lesion in her brain. Regan is forced to endure a series of unpleasant medical tests.
When X-rays show nothing out of the ordinary, a doctor advises that Regan be taken to a psychiatrist, whom she assaults. Paranormal occurrences continue to surround the MacNeil household, including a violently shaking bed, strange noises and unexplained movements. The director of Chris MacNeil's film is found brutally murdered after being asked to babysit for Regan.

Chris MacNeil finds out that a exorcism is the only escape for the Daugher, and that its a matter of life or death.

Long Story Short?

This film has pretty much my favourite scene from film history.
Some of the best sound effects and visual effects you would of scene (fuck cgi).

Rosemary's Baby

When people first watch this film they think its a love story,. when in fact its the most chilling and suspenseful
film to date.

The Plot?

Rosemary and Guy Woodhouse move into an apartment in a building with a bad reputation. They discover that their neighbours are a very friendly elderly couple named Roman and Minnie Castevet, and Guy begins to spend a lot of time with them. Strange things start to happen: a woman Rosemary meets in the washroom dies a mysterious death, Rosemary has strange dreams and hears strange noises and Guy becomes remote and distant. Then Rosemary falls pregnant and begins to suspect that her neighbours have special plans for her child.

Long Story Short?

For a few years i put of watching this film, but once i did it is one of the top favourite of all time.

Some of the best quotes and some of the best performances from that era in film.

The Ninth Gate.

I'm not a fan of many of Depp's films but the few including this are powerful, chilling and brilliant.

The Plot?

Rare book sleuth Dean Corso has been hired to find the two other existing copies of the seventeenth-century Book of the Nine Doors to the Kingdom of Darkness, reputed to hold the key to conjuring Satan. He travels from Madrid to Paris in search of the Book of the Nine Doors.

Long Story Short?

For anyone who wants to ease into occult films i think this is your best. shows you the true light.
Dark, elegant, sexy and powerful. one of the best watches ever.

I got a chance to have a few words to ask her what putting shows on was all about.

Good evening Sam. could you please tell us alittle about yourself?

Hey I'm Sam, live in a little town called biggleswade, i don't know anyone here so i spend most of my time in London, up north and recently Birmingham! I love to travel, meet new people and bands!!
I'm a geek at heart (not a fake one, a genuine boring one) i spend my spare time reading poetry or books on history! My recent obsession is William Blake,check him out hes so honest!

Your very in touch with the hardcore scene and put on allot of shows.
what is it about hardcore and metal that makes you wanna put on shows?

To be honest this weekend for shows has been a bit of a disaster, i put one on last night in London, it was a nightmare attendance wise, but everyone that did come seemed to have a laugh, and when the bands were playing people were going nuts, that's why i do it, i don't do it for reputation, friends or to be cool, i do it purely for those moments. I didn't manage to pay the bands, although it was a door deal so there was no guarantees, however i will get them some money just to show my gratitude to them!

Can you tell us how you would go about putting on a show?

Well usually what happens is a band contacts you with a few dates that they want to play and the area they want to play in, then ill find the venue, other bands to put on the lineup and then start promoting it!

Are there any shows your very proud of?

Yes all of them! I love doing them whether they turn out good or not. I did one in France at the end of last year, was so nice, in a tiny little venue at the back of a pub, but it packed out, the french seem to love hardcore more than us!!

Whats the worst thing that's happened while putting on a show?

I haven't really had any bad situations, the worst thing is when people don't turn up, its heartbreaking, you put so much time, effort and stress into a show, and no one can be bothered to come out! Facebook can be a curse also, it tells you, you will get loads of people and there is loads of hype, then you get no one, But at the end of the day you just have to go with the flow and remember why you are doing it!

What type of bands would you like to put on that you don't already?

I have allot of bands that i would like to put on, but i really want to start putting bands that aren't really noticed on a little bit more, help them get there name out. I still want to see almost home and more than life, every time i go to one of there shows Ive had to leave before they play, so putting them on would be amazing. But there is also so so many bands that i want to put on again and again! Like broken teeth, bays, set apart. there is to many to name!.

So far what has been the favourite show you put on?

One in my home town, Riga, Latvia. it was amazing, allot of my old friends and bands that aren't heard of that have also split up and gone there own ways, which is a great shame.
It was literally just friends hanging out having a good time, there was no drama, hating, no one that was cooler than the next person, was a really nice vibe!

Are there any shows or tours you would like to put on in the future?

I would love to do a tour with broken teeth as i kind of screwed up there weekend this weekend, so would like to do that for them. I would also like to bring a few hidden bands from Europe, kill for peace and others. Also me and my good friend Bella have a show coming up in the near future that you should all look out for! Its in aid of her boyfriend Tom Stanley who has been sent to prison for graffiti (check out support Tom Stanley on facebook) the show will have some amazing bands!

Do you believe that the d.i.y scene is slowly dieing or is it stronger then ever?

I think most of hardcore is still d.i.y most bands book there shows themselves, i think the problem is people confuse hardcore with metal or soft/post hardcore. That's when you start getting managers and such involved, i mean management is not a bad thing at all and most of them are very flexible. Although i don't want to speak for hardcore bands i think that most of them like to have there say in shows, tours etc.

Harriet is a good friend I've had for a few years now. I've always wanted to ask her what it is about tattooing she loves, i was lucky enough to grab a interview with her over the weekend...

Hello Harriet, could you please introduce yourself and tell us allittle about yourself?

Hello! I live in Eastboune and have worked part time at Pistols Tattoo Studio since September 2009 and started tattooing in January. I love taxidermy's, antiques and oddities but I also have a soft spot for technology and am a bit of a nerd with an Internet addiction.

Could you tell us how you first started getting into tattooing and what first attracted you to it?

For me it was when I got into alternative music, all the people in my favourite bands had tattoos and I wanted to be like them. Luckily I wasn't old enough when I first had an interest or I'd have some serious regrets! Drawing has always been the one thing I've been good at and enjoyed. After quitting my art foundation year because it just wasn't what I wanted to be doing, I was made redundant at my job at a music store. I had a conversation with a friend about what to do with my life and he pointed out how stupid it was that I wasn't already trying to be a tattooist and it all came from there. I started drawing and drawing and ended up here.

You use allot of bold shading and simple line work in your tattoos, do you find this is a style you really enjoy or more of a style people tend to stick to lately?

I do think there is a lot of generic old school stuff out there that's just being rehashed again and again, and I do like to try and put a bit of a twist on designs to make them my own or more up to date, but at the same time, I don't like to change them too much as the classic designs are that for a reason. I've recently been trying more to get my work to look a lot less fussy. I have a habit of adding too much detail in, and while it's good for some things, designs can sometimes look a little crowded. Drawing a really nice clean simple old school design from scratch is far harder than it looks. I tend to stick to this style because I enjoy it and I love tattoos that look like tattoos.

What inspires you when drawing or designing a tattoo for a customer?

I'm sure anyone who looks at my drawings can tell that I'm a big fan of animals. Anyone who asks for an animal tattoo is my new best friend. While looking at other tattooists' work is important, it can lead to your work just looking like a rip off of someone else's. I like to use reference from Victorian illustrations, as well as visiting museums, galleries, and of course zoos. I take a lot of photos and draw inspiration from everything around me. The most important inspiration is the customer them self though, and I will try and come up with a design that suits them and their personality.

Do you feel being a women tattooist you have a different outlook on a piece your tattooing?

I guess to an extent it may affect my work a little. I've always found it hard to draw things that look fierce and angry as opposed to cute and fluffy. I'm definitely not a typical girl though, so I'm much happier drawing skulls full of black shading than flowers and hearts.

Some of your designs are very different and have allot going on, do you like more epic looking tattoos or do you like to push yourself when doing a piece?

I tend to draw something and just keep adding to it. I love looking at my own tattoos and getting lost in them noticing all the little subtle touches. I think bold simple designs look great, but something that people notice something new in each time they look at it excites me a lot more.

What are the low points about being a apprentice?

The biggest low for me is definitely the steep learning curve. You can pick up a pen or a pencil or any type of drawing implement and if you can draw, you're pretty likely to be good at it straight away, or at least after half an hour's practise. Tattooing is nothing like that. Suddenly you're unable to draw a straight line and it feels like you're five years old again. It's really frustrating, but it gives you the motivation to keep at it and not just get lazy. That and scrubbing tips!

What other things could we find you doing when your not tattooing?

I'm usually working at my part time job at a video game store, playing Pokemon, knitting or just hanging out with my friends and boyfriend.

What would be the "perfect" tattoo for you?

This changes all the time. I go through phases of things I would love to tattoo. Right now I would love someone to let me do a panther on them. The sort of tattoos that excite me though usually contain animals, skulls or anything anatomical, clouds/smoke and lots of black shading with yellow in there somewhere. I also love owls. They have infinite possibilities and are just so much fun to draw!

Is there any design you've had major trouble with yet?

The hardest one I've done so far is definitely the Black Flag logo on a girl's ribs. I completely underestimated how hard ribs would be to tattoo, and especially something with straight lines and a lot of black!

Are there any hints or tip for people looking to get into tattooing?

Draw, draw and keep drawing. Also get tattooed a lot by people who's work you love. Watch what they do and you'll learn a lot. Just being in a good tattoo studio can be so inspiring. Expect a lot of people to say no without even looking up from the desk, but be persistent and don't let it knock you back. A lot of it is being in the right place at the right time and knowing the right people, but most of all you have to really want it. If you want it to happen enough, it will.
